Sleeping Beauties

I love taking pictures of the girls when they are sleeping.  Maybe because it is one time where they are still enough for me to get them….and I like looking at them so peaceful and quiet!  Here are some pictures of them sleeping (at the same time!) today.  Kelsey fell asleep reading one of her library books, a book about a caterpillar who’s gotta go, gotta go, gotta go to Mexico.  She likes reading the books to herself, or Megan, and it is funny to listen to her make up the story.  She usually remembers basically what the story is about and is very dramatic in her reading.

Our Olympian

Kelsey and Michael attend a parent-tot gymnastics class at Tricks Gymnastics once a week.  Last week was “Gold Medal Week”, where they had a performance and medal ceremony.  Here are some pictures of Kelsey performing and “winning” her gold medal.

The next day was the women’s gymnastic competition in the Olympics.  Kelsey loved watching the girls “jump high” and said that she “wasn’t a big girl like those girls, but when she was she was going to jump high like them.”  Even later in the day she asked again to watch “tricks” on TV.  Maybe we have a future Olympian?!?

Time to lower the crib

Here’s how I found Megan the other day ….

I guess it is time for us to lower the mattress.  She is an expert crawler now and has started pulling up on things (obviously!)  The problem is once she gets up, she can’t get down gracefully.  She has a few scratches on her face to prove it.  She had her 6 month check up the other day and is still topping the charts at 95% for height and 88% for weight.  She is almost 19 pounds now.

Kelsey is full swing into potty training.  She is doing very well (mostly because she gets chocolate as a prize) and like all potty trainees wants to go to the bathroom in every store that we visit.  When we ask her if she wants to go to the store she says, “Do they have a potty there?”  She makes us laugh daily with the funny things that come out of her mouth.   The other day we were going to a birthday party and I asked her if I could eat her cake.  She said, “No, I am going to eat all my cake and then you’ll be sad and cry like this…waaa…waaa.”  She also has a good sense of humor and cracks herself up.  She always says, “That’ll be funny” to things that aren’t necessarily considered funny by most people.  She was a big hit at Megan’s doctor appointment in her Mexican dress that she chose to wear.

Back in CA

We just returned to California after a 3 week trip to Texas to visit family.  We had a packed schedule, and it was really a fun trip.  We spent a week and a half at the Fisher house, and a week and a half at the Williams house.  This was the first time most of the extended family got to meet Megan.  We spent most days swimming in the pool and trying to stay cool out there.  The last 2 weeks we were there the temperature hit at least 100 degrees every day but one!

Between the two family visits, Krista and I got to take a trip to Las Vegas, without the kids.  Kelsey and Megan stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Williams.  We had a blast surprising Stephen for his 30th birthday.  Stephen didn’t even know he was going to Vegas until the morning of, and then David, Krista and I walked up and surprised him again while he was playing video poker.   We ate some good food, gambled a little, and got to SLEEP IN!  It was perfect.

The trip was capped off with a 60th wedding anniversary party for Krista’s grandparents.  We had a 2 day celebration filled with games and activities and again lots of good food.  Krista’s grandparents were very appreciative of the party, and everyone had a great time.  There were over 30 people at the party most of the time.

It’s amazing how much Megan changed from the beginning of the trip to the end.  Before we left, Megan couldn’t sit up on her own and was barely pulling up on all fours.  Now she can sit up on her own and is scooting around.  It’s good to be 6 months!

Almost time to go back to work for me.  I have been off now for almost 4 weeks.  It will not be fun to go back, but I suppose I am ready.  It was definitely refreshing to be off for this period of time.  See you later.

Kelsey Bird

This week Krista is volunteering at Lakeside Church for their summer camp called Blitz.  Since Krista is working, that means Kelsey gets to go to the daycare “camp” at the church.  She was excited about going and seeing her good friend, Kayla, and taking her own lunch.  (In her words, taking her lunch to church “would be funny.”)  They got to church at 8:30am and they don’t get out until after lunch at 12:30, so it was a long morning for her.

I took a late lunch today, so I could see the girls when they came home from Blitz.  Kelsey seemed tired when I saw her, so when I left to go back to work, I assumed she would take a good nap.  However, when I walked in the door around 5:45 this evening, Kelsey was sleeping in her high chair at the dinner table.  She was so tired because she didn’t take a nap for Krista in the afternoon.  I laid her in her bed, and Krista and I hoped a quick nap would do her good.

Wiped out

Tonight was our night for Tricks, the gym for little kids.  We had to wake Kelsey up to put her in the car.  She was in no shape for anything.  She was crying and slobbering….she was a mess.  My only hope was that when she saw the trampolines and other stuff at Tricks she would come around.  Boy was I wrong.  She clung onto me like a monkey.  She freaked out when I tried to set her down.  It was not happening.  Krista goes grocery shopping when we are at Tricks, so I had to call her to come back early to pick us up.

After we got home, everything was great.  Kelsey got her second wind.  She was so happy and pumped up, I was afraid that she would not go to bed.  But we got her down by 9, about an hour later than ideal, but it was good.

Let’s hope that tomorrow is better….Blitz, naps and everything.

Howdy everyone!

Mike Armstrong is determined to get me fired.  First he shows me Facebook.com, and then he tells me I need to start a Weblog.  I need to stop listening to him.

My hope for this weblog is that it will help document some life experiences that we might otherwise forget about.  I believe this could come in handy later in life.  Maybe when Kelsey and Megan get older, they would appreciate some comments on life.

I always assumed that pictures would be enough for documentation.  However, an experience today was pretty funny, and I didn’t have a camera to capture the moment.  Here is the story . . . We were eating at one of our favorite lunch spots, Los Cerros, and out front of the restaurant is a large fountain.  Kelsey loves to run around the fountain.  Usually she runs like crazy until she falls and skins her knees.  Today, she was leaning into the fountain to touch the water . . . all good.  Then she decided to sit up on the ledge of the fountain.  I was walking over to play with her (and to spot her).  As I was walking over to her, she lost her balance and fell in head first.  I pulled her out, and she was fine, just completely soaked.  She was in some shock, but otherwise in good spirits.

Kelsey remembers everything in her life and likes to repeat them over and over.  (like the time a frog jumped on her arm)  So, I am looking forward to every time we go back to Los Cerros, she will surely tell us and any stranger near by that she fell in the fountain.

We will see if I can get enough content to keep this going.
